Tiruvnanthapuram: State level School Youth Festivals, which was swept by the unimaginable loss of flood in Kerala, has finally seen its rays of light. It has been decided that programmes will be conducted in Alappuzha, but will be restricted to three days- October 7,8,9, lacking its grandeur promised every year. Decisions were taken in a quality assessment committee under the presidency of DPI. Programmes will be confined to collages schools and public halls instead of grand pavillions to cut cost. Food will be provided in the stage premises by Kudumbasree with public cooperation.
Not only state level youth festival, so is the state level sports meet confined to three days. It shall be conducted during the days of October 26, 27, 28 at Tiruvananthapuram. District level Youth Festival that normally precedes state level festival should be conducted within any two days between November 12th and 24th. Also composition type competitions which includes 47 items have been limited to district level only. 13 games events were also limited zone level.
The State level school youth festival, not only celebrated as an state wide competitions, but also considered to represent cultural diversity of kerala the form of art and as a stage of opportunities for young talents, was decides to be cancelled for this year following the devastating floods.
The decision was proposed by Chief minister Pinaray Vijayan as a part of retrenchment to meet financial needs for flood rehabilitation. Not only was the youth festival but every other festivals and cultural celebrations involving government fund was to be canceled. The proposal was already facing dissent among the cabinet members, for many reasons including- the credit points for the participants.
